Success! did you manage to find some time to reflect upon what it really means to you…that was last week’s challenge. This week I’m re-reading some of John O’Donohue’s beautiful conversations in “Walking in Wonder”. I’d describe the late John as not only a poet and author but a true modern mystic. Someone who walked amongst us a little more evolved and connected, feeding the deep spiritual hunger that lies in many of our hearts. He illuminated the way for us and helped us to understand and question life in a more informed and less frightened way. This week I had thought to ask a question around how we ‘wonder’ but I have a more pressing question in mind.
John talks about how each one of us is the custodian of our own inner world. The world only you can be truly familiar with and he also talks about ‘questioning’ as the gateway to illuminating new landscapes and new areas for us as we explore.
It reminded me that our thoughts and indeed that mindset I harp on about can truly be the making or breaking of us. I’ve started to really unpack how if I got out of my own way – cryptic for if I could shut-up those thoughts and questions that make me frightened, anxious, paralysed from doing or being, I would be truly invincible. To that end, I gave myself a challenge this week of ‘getting out of my own way’ in order to achieve something I really wanted to do and knew I could. Something up to now I found quite nerve-racking and energy zapping.
The imposter syndrome creeps in here - I’m not good enough, will I fail?, people will find me out…. When we start to embrace the fact that many of the skills and gifts we have are only of use when we share them and indeed command some space for them, then we truly serve our communities and each other. So, I committed to do this task - I went with the flow and when those thoughts arose I consciously and deliberately exercised some discipline to disrupt those thoughts, took a deep breath and rather than hopping on board those self-limiting beliefs, I let them pass by like clouds in the sky. The other thing I did is devote that task to someone – so the task became an act of devotion. It wasn’t all about me anymore!
So, my challenge to you this week is to ask and observe yourself with this in mind:
Are you getting in the way of you becoming your best self?
The challenge - To truly understand that what we give out eventually comes back to us.
Until next time….Keep Shining,
Trish x
