Leading with Love
Love in the workplace? – absolutely! Not the amorous or office-romance kind. The love and kindness leaders can show everyday - It’s a thing. Never do we need it more than now. Behaviours where e.g. a CEO of a company of 1200 employees sends a birthday message to each person on their special day or another that picks one employee and sends them a short note of appreciation while sipping on his coffee every morning. And the love is returned 10-fold. Just listen to Prof Calello, Professor of Leadership and Ethics at the Columbia Business School relay the story on this brilliant and fun ABC “This working life” podcast aired this week. So as I #pauseforreflection this month, I know it’s not hard to express some love in the form of gratitude, praise, or a simple kind act. We just need reminding from time to time. > read on…
Even the HBR is writing about leading with love as they promote Marcus Buckingham’s new book about unleashing the most powerful emotion in the workplace. Love isn’t just a soft feeling, but a measurable driver of performance and growth – it’s what makes us human and it’s what helps us to thrive… feeling our way through life not just thinking.
My favourite book of all time “Encouraging the Heart” was written in 1999 and talks about 7 essentials to lead from the heart: set clear standards, expect the best, pay attention, personalize recognition, tell the story, celebrate together, and set the example. It can quite simply be showing genuine appreciation for people's efforts, celebrating their successes, and valuing them through authentic gestures and words.
You are kind and loving. You have the capacity for infinite love – we all do. As we enter these sacred Easter days that millions observe around the world, at a time where the world needs so much healing and peace, I challenge you to park that ego, rest the mind and live your best life by living and working to connect, support and get the best out of those around you.
As ever, the challenge - To truly understand that what we give out eventually comes back to us.
Until next time….Keep Shining,
With love and best wishes

I am the Principal of Wisdom in One. I have been working with and Coach-Mentoring Leaders for over 25 years. At Wisdom in One, our commitment is to a practical and holistic approach to achieving life balance for the mind, body, heart and soul; ensuring we take care of ourselves, each other and the world in order to create a better future for our children.
I not only believe but know that LEADERSHIP IS A RESPONSIBILITY AND IT IS SACRED.
By looking at and developing awareness about how we live, lead and work, we can create a powerful sense of 'knowing' and consciousness about what impact we have on our own lives, our health, others around us and our environment. By tapping into this wisdom, we can grow, change and live a fuller, richer life and make positive and enlightened contributions. Leaders have real-time impact on a community’s stability, sustainability and collective wellbeing. Therefore Leaders have a responsibility to their own wellbeing.
The challenge - To truly understand that what we give out eventually comes back to us.
